Behind-the-scenes on the Musto Technical Sailing SS19 Lookbook Photoshoot with Ranch Creative
Lookbooks are the perfect way to showcase new clothing ranges for any brand in fashion, athleisure or activewear, helping to create extended content for a themed campaign. We’re going to take you behind-the scenes on our shoot last year with premium activewear brand Musto when we got the chance to shoot their swing/summer technical sailing range along with some of their new lifestyle products.
Musto were looking for photography and film to complement their location shoots, so a studio based shoot was decided very early on. With a strong and serious tone determined by the client, we went about putting a treatment of ideas together with model suggestions (with the help of our friends at W), colour palettes and suggested shot lists.
The team had the idea of integrating sailing equipment into the shoot, and with the help of the client, we had a box of professional sailing equipment shipped to the studio to play around with before the shoot. We were instantly drawn to the translucency of the sails, so we prepped the studio to use coloured lighting for photography and video clips through the sail.
Having the freedom of using our own studio space at Woods Lodge Studio, meant we could prep the studio the week before by installing hanging fixtures and creative lighting panels to bring the brief to life.
In tandem with the client, we decided on two brilliant and professional models, Joey Duck and Chris Baxter. Whilst we had a series of stock images prepared to shoot, there was an element of experimenting with the sailing equipment to see what would work best. The biggest challenge was the sheer size of the sail, completely engulfing the entire studio once opened out fully. But we were delighted with the results, and so was the client.
Preparing for this shoot certainly had a Ready, Steady, Cook vibe with our box of sailing gear to integrate into the shoot. But we prepared as much as possible to give ourselves the time and the freedom to get creative on shoot day. You can never be too prepared!
